Bi-County Community Action Programs, Inc. (BI-CAP) is seeking Entry-level Carpenters in Bemidji, MN.

Local contractors provide service through BI-CAP’s Weatherization Program. The program is expanding and has an abundance of work within our community. Applications received will be forwarded to all our interested General Contractors for follow-up.
• Prefer at least 1 year of verifiable experience in construction, but willing to teach the right person
• Work will consist mainly of insulating, air sealing, ventilation and general home improvement
• Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment in a safe manner
• Hard working: self-motivated, can problem solve, understands when to seek advice or direction
• Professional: Reliable and on time, polite, respectful, demonstrates good communication skills
• Frequently performs tasks requiring climbing, crawling, kneeling, crouching, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, gripping, and reaching over head
• Full time, year-round work. Home every night
• Pay based on experience and performance

Life Skills Specialist

Bi-County Community Action Programs, Inc. (BI-CAP) is seeking a YouthBuild Life Skills Specialist in Bemidji, MN
If you’re interested in working closely with youth, age 16-24, to help them achieve education and life goals, this job could be for you.
The Life Skills Specialist will work with participants in the YouthBuild Program in the process of completing their high school education while learning valuable work experience and construction skills.
As part of BI-CAP’s YouthBuild Program, you’ll be able to make a difference in participants’ lives and make a positive impact on the community.
As Life Skills Specialist, you’ll:

  • Arrange guest speakers and partner with local businesses, agencies, organizations and colleges for educational opportunities for participants
  • Teach group sessions on work ethics, personal budgeting/finance, household management skills, social skills and more.
  • Assist students with filing taxes, acquiring a permit or driver’s license, applying for housing, childcare, healthcare food assistance, or other supports
  • Help youth resolve barriers to program attendance
  • Mentor participants to achieve their goals

You’ll need to have good communication, record keeping, and organizational skills, the ability to supervise and work with youth, and are able to maintain positive relationships with participants, coworkers and the public.
High School Diploma and two years of related work experience or at least two years of advanced education in the field of Human Services. Preference is given for previous work assisting opportunity youth in a support setting. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

Life Skills Specialist job description

Teacher

Bi-County Community Action Programs, Inc. (BI-CAP) is seeking a Teacher for its Head Start classroom in Kelliher, MN.
The teacher is responsible for the effective operation of the Head Start classroom including delivery of education services and classroom safety.
The teacher would work collaboratively with the Kelliher School District in the preschool classroom at Kelliher Elementary starting in August 2021.
In collaboration with school district teaching staff, duties include developing the classroom environment; planning and implementing daily activities and ongoing assessments; observing and recording child development and behaviors; participating in specialized education plans for children; and delegating tasks and modeling teaching techniques for assistants, aides and volunteers in the classroom.
The teacher will work jointly with a BI-CAP Family Advocate to build positive relationships with families identifying children’s strengths and working together to set child goals.
Requirements: Teacher is required to hold a minimum of an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in child development or early childhood education. Early Childhood teaching experience preferred.­­ Please submit proof of an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.

Full-time, 40 hours/week, 10 months: August to May with benefits during the school year. Wage depending on qualifications.
